Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski (СУ Св. Климент Охридски)
Start the itinerary 1 day in Sofia with the beautiful building of the most famous university in Sofia. In front of the building you can see the statues of its founders – the brothers Evlogi Georgiev and Hristo Georgiev.

National Assembly (Народно събрание) & Monument to the Tsar Liberator (Паметник на Цар Освободител)
The building of the National Assembly is constructed in three stages between 1884 – 1928 in Neo-Renaissance style.
In front of the National Assembly you can see the monument to the Tsar Liberator. The monument is raised in honour of the Russian Emperor Alexander II. The emperor liberated Bulgaria from a horrible Ottoman rule that lasted about 500 years.

St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Храм-паметник Свети Александър Невски)
St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the symbols of the city. It is one of the must see sites even if you visiting Sofia only for one day. St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world.
The cathedral is devoted to all Russian soldiers that lost their lives during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. The name of the cathedral is also connected to Russia. Saint Alexander Nevsky was a Russian prince who lived in 13th century.

Russian Church (Руската църква)
The Russian Church is small but you will be stunned by its beautiful facade. It was built in 1914, after the liberation of Bulgaria by Russia from the Ottoman rule. The church initially served as an official church of the Russian Embassy.

National Art Gallery (Национална художествена галерия)
The National Art Gallery is housed in a former royal palace. It was built for the Prince Alexander of Battenberg, the first monarch of Bulgaria. A visit is not included in the itinerary but if you are an art lover you can spare 1 hour to see some Bulgarian art.

Ivan Vazov National Theatre (Народен театър Иван Вазов)
Ivan Vazov National Theatre is not only the oldest theatre in Bulgaria, but it is also the most beautiful one. The park in front of it is a well known spot for meetings.

You can try: Shtastliveca (Щастливеца) or Hadjidraganov’s Cellars (Хаджидрагановите изби). If you want to try traditional Bulgarian food go to the Hadjidraganov’s Cellars.

Church of St. George (Ротонда Свети Георги)
Continue the itinerary 1 day in Sofia with the Church of St. George. It is an early Christian church and it is one of the oldest buildings in Sofia. The Romans built it around 4th century.

Church of St. Petka of the Saddlers (Църква Света Петка Самарджийска)
Church of St. Petka of the Saddlers is a small medieval church.

Statue of Sveta Sofia (Статуя на Света София)
The Statue of Sveta Sofia was erected in 2000 on a spot once occupied by a statue of Lenin. Sveta Sofia is the patron of the city.

St. Nedelya Church (Църква Света Неделя)
St. Nedelya Church is medieval church in which you can see the remains of the Serbian king Stefan Milutin.
05:30 PM – 06:00 PM
National Palace of Culture (Национален дворец на културата)
National Palace of Culture is a large exhibitions center. The square in front of it is a popular meeting place.
You can try: Chevermeto (Чевермето) or Made in Home. If you want to try authentic Bulgarian cuisine go to the Chevermeto.
