The Roman Amphitheatre is a must see. It is one of the best preserved amphitheatres in the world. The amphitheatre was constructed in the end of the 1st century during the rule of the Roman Emperor Trajan. The theatre hosted not only plays and musical shows, but also -gladiatorial fights. Nowadays various musical concerts are held in here.

St. Dimitar Church is a little church from 1838.

Church of the Holy Mother of God (Църква Света Богородица)
Church of the Holy Mother of God is built on the place of an old Greek church from the 9th century AD. This 19th century church is illuminated at night, so pay a second visit after dark.

Museum – Gallery Philippopolis is an art gallery located in one of the most beautiful old houses in Plovdiv’s Old Town. The gallery houses works of famous Bulgarian artists from 19th century to nowadays.

Emperor Hadrian commissioned the construction of the stadium in the beginning of the 2nd century AD. Unfortunately you can see only a small part of this large stadium lying beneath the main street in Plovdiv.

Tsar Simeon Garden (Градина Цар Симеон)
It’s time to relax. Take your time and enjoy the nature in the Tsar Simeon Garden.
There are bears you can pet. Unfortunately not real bears, but bears made of stone.
One of my favourite things to do is to buy a gelato from the gelateria Afreddo and eat it at peace in the garden. This gelato is one of the best in Plovdiv, but you will find this by yourself when you try it.
There are fountains at the end of the garden, that are a must see at night. In the summer there is a colourful fountain light show.

Church of St. Constantine and Helena (Св. Св. Константин и Елена)
The Church of St. Constantine and Helena is one of the oldest in the city. It dates from 337 AD and it has been reconstructed several times since that. The current building is from 1832.

The Plovdiv Historical Museum occupies the house of a wealthy craftsman who lived in the 19th century. The museum covers the history of Plovdiv from the 15th to 19th century.

On Nebet hill you can see the remains of an ancient Thracian town. Of course the panoramic views over the city are stunning, especially if you come here at sunset.
