Where to stay in Pisa – a quick guide to the best area and places to stay in Pisa (including hand-picked hotels near the Leaning Tower or the airport).
Where to Stay in Pisa, Italy? How to choose the best location for your Tuscany trip?
To choose the perfect area you should take into account your travel plans. How long will you stay in the city? Will you use it as a base to travel around? Are you departing very early in the morning?
For my trip, I chose an accommodation between Arno River and the Central train station. This area is only about 1,5km from the airport and 500m from the Central train station. This perfectly suited my needs. I planned to spend 1 day in Pisa and to take a day trip on the following day.
I arrived very late in the evening, almost midnight and I could easily reach my accommodation on foot. Having the train station nearby allowed me to take an early train to Lucca for a day trip. And the Leaning Tower was only 1km away!
It has a great location, yet quiet at night. The rooms are charming and the breakfast offers a variety of salty and sweet selection. The perfect base to explore Pisa and Tuscany.
The best hotels near Leaning Tower of Pisa
What are the best hotels near the Leaning Tower? Is it easy to find a good hotel in the city centre or close to the tower?
The Leaning Tower is right in the heart of the city, so booking an accommodation around it is a great choice. You’d be close to all landmarks, restaurants and bars. You’ll have no problems going back to your hotel after a lovely dinner or a romantic walk along the Arno river in the evening.
Finding a good hotel near the tower is a whole different story. Most of the hotels that have fantastic views of the tower are in very poor condition and dirty. I had a really hard time finding a few decent ones.
Yet, while it is hard to find a decent hotel, there is plenty of very nice B&B close to the Leaning Tower. Although they don’t have all the hotel facilities, these gorgeous B&B have a better location. They also provide breakfast that will keep you full throughout the morning.

Hotels near Pisa airport and Central train station
Are there any good hotels near Pisa airport, Italy? Is it better to stay close to the airport or to choose accommodation in the city centre? Whether you will stay close to the airport or in the city centre, it depends on your travelling plans.
How to get from Pisa International Airport to the city centre
The International Airport (Galileo Galilei Airport) is the main airport in Tuscany. The airport and the Central train station are less than a kilometre from each other. The city centre is about a 2km walk from the airport itself.
Although the distance is not long, there is a lack of convenient public transport. Thus, I’d recommend you stay close to the airport or Central train station only if you have an early flight or plan to use the city as a base for day trips.
There is no direct connection between the airport and the city centre. You can take either a taxi or Pisa mover. The Pisa mover takes you to the Central train station. From there you could walk to the city centre or take a bus.
Having this in mind, the better option is to book a hotel near the tower. Yet if your plans include an early morning flight or transfer to another city, take a look at these hand-picked B&Bs and hotels close to the airport.

Pisa Historic Centre
If you are visiting the city for a few days and your plans include mostly leisurely sightseeing and enjoying Italian food, choose the Historic Centre. You’ll have all the landmarks close at hand. The Leaning Tower will be no more than 700m away. Most of the good restaurants are around, too.
However, there is only one downside, going to the airport is not very convenient. There isn’t any direct public transport. You have to take the city bus to the Central train station. From there you have to take the Pisa mover to the airport. Another option is to use a taxi.

The south bank of Arno River
It is a delight to look at the Leaning Tower from your hotel’s window. However choosing any of the numerous hotels near the tower, may not be the most convenient option for you.
The area between Arno River and the Central train station is the perfect one if you are visiting Pisa for a short time. This is also the better choice if you want to use the city as a base to explore Tuscany.
Choose the south bank of Arno River
If you plan to spend a little time in the city or need an easy connection to the airport or the train station.
- The Central train station is super close.
- If you don’t have checked luggage, you can even walk (1,5km) to the airport from here. Otherwise, take the Pisa mover from the train station.
