Where to Stay in Verona (Best Areas + Hotels 2023)

A full guide to where to stay in Verona, Italy (+ the best areas and places to stay in the historic city centre and near the train station).

Situated on the banks of the Adige River, Verona is one of the most popular cities in northeast Italy. The city is best known for its association with the famous Shakespeare’s tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.

Although most of tourists visit Verona for its romantic side, the city has so much more to offer. It’s a charming medieval town with gorgeous bridges, Roman ruins and a castle. Don’t forget the mouth-watering Italian food and great wine.

Visiting Verona for the first time? Then take a look at my complete itinerary for one day in Verona. It covers all the key sights, including how to skip the lines at Arena di Verona.

Verona is often combined with Venice, as the distance between them is only 120km. Thus, you can easily explore Venice on a day trip. The journey is a little more than an hour by train. Yet, for an overnight stay (which I strongly recommend), check out where to stay in Venice.

Where I stayed

I had only one day in Verona. So I was looking for a place that is close to the major tourist sites and restaurants. I didn’t want to waste any time in transportation. If you’re short on time, like I was, I’d suggest you to stay right in the Historic City Centre.

My favourite hotel in this area is Hotel Accademia. I love its location – close to the Arena, Juliet’s House and main shopping street. Plus, the rooms are comfy and large.

The Historic City Centre of Verona is the best area to stay for sightseeing, shopping and restaurants.
